The Last One...

Finally, everything has come to an end...

After working with the other four guys who were originally strangers to me (didn't even know Wei Herr, Kah Wah and Kern Hong well before coming to Singapore :p), I did learn something from each of them. The most important thing is I learnt how to socialize. This is such a great improvement in my life.

I like this group in term of the way we did our project. Yes, there were always conflicts among us, but undeniably, we really put our heart and soul into this project whenever we were given a task.

Of course, there is also something that I do not like about this group. Actually it is just what I mentioned, conflicts. This group had really really a lot of conflicts and quarrels. The conflicts did not occur just because of different in opinions during discussions, but also out of someone's unreasonable behaviour.

The future plan...

Well, since this project is over, it means we won't have the stress and pressure anymore. I am really not willing to lay a finger on this matter again. However, this project really taught me a lot of things. And these things can influence our future. So, if I really have time, I will continue to raise awareness within the community.

Beyond the Finish Line

2nd September 2009…all is done.

We have completed our RESL projects and no doubt we are happy and relieved after the many months of continuous hard work, pressure and stress. But now it’s time to look forward…

There are bound to be many other projects for us to invest in the future and through this Veggie project, it has made me more ready and confident in myself, my capability and my weaknesses as well, I really learn to communicate with others and work with them to achieve the best results. Even though there might be misunderstandings at times, but we just have to deal with us. We can’t stop this, but we can avoid and prevent it from affecting our team.

As for our future plans…

Now that RESL is over, frankly I do not very much feel like doing more cause that means going into more days of stress and hard work, which I quite hope to stop myself from involving in it right now. But all that our team has promised to finish and have not yet done so, we will finish it in due time. Now that everything is over, I hope to let this project slip into my history book instead of keeping it still in my to-do-list.

But…

There’s always a but. If I have the time and the capability to do so, without eating in into my study time to an over large extent, or without sacrificing too much of my time in other aspects like CCA and socializing, then I will most certainly help out in anything that needs help with.

Many things have come and passed…accomplished…made successful…transformed…we have learn much but there is still much much more to learn.

I am happy that even though I went through a lot of hard times when doing this RESL, but it really really help me in terms of my communication with people, working out solutions in a meaningful way and discipline.

All GOOD (undesireable?) things come to end…

I hereby close this chapter of my life here as I continue on with the on-going chapters and discover new chapters that are yet to reveal itself, and at the same time look back at my previous stories of mine and recall the bitter-sour-sweet-salty-spicy-sticky-milky-smooth-icy-hot moments of my life…

Reflect, Reflect and Reflecwht

Every time when I reflect on the project, my mind will turn blank. I don't really have much to reflect. I can't really find any meaning in the project. I always treat it as an ordinary school work, nothing special. It is going to to end but am I really happy? I spent so much time on the project and in the end I gain nothing out of it. I may think that I have learned something but is it really true? I am better at handling conflict? Obviously not. I learned something about advocacy? Again no. In fact, I never really reach out to the society. I know more about myself? I think I am still the very same person.

Maybe sometimes, I should learn to accommodate to others. Be more positive. There must be failure before we succeed. Without failure, none of the accomplishments is a success. I would not tolerate this to happen anymore. I have experienced enough failures in my life.

Oral presentation. At first, I thought my group was going to be one of the lousiest. However, other groups were even worse than us. :) At least I felt a bit assured. Overall, I think we lack of a good opening and a good posture. Nervousness is the devil. We should also prevent from looking at the slides so often.

Reflection, such an arduous job. Sometimes write out a reflection, but seems to be a fabricated story, at least for me. :)

The Days Before Oral Presentation..

Finally, RE is coming to an end. A week later, after our oral presentation, we will be freed. These few weeks, we were busy preparing our powerpoint slides and script for the oral presentation. We had rehearsed the oral presentation in Mr. Goh’s office and received valuable feedbacks. With these comments, we modified our powerpoint slides to a better one. We also changed our ways of presenting like reading from notes, keep looking at the screen, etc. Besides, we also need to have self-confidence, loud voice projection and smile :) (like this =.=)

This Wednesday, we attended the oral presentation of other groups. We observed that the members of these groups kept reading from the notes and seldom made eye-contact with the judges, which according to Mr. Goh, a low mark is rewarded. Besides, we also found that the powerpoint slides were a bit boring as they were all in text. The best presenter today was a Vietnamese. He smartly put videos into his powerpoint slides and thus make the presentation more interesting. We can come out with a more engaging presentation maybe by creating interaction with the judges or audiences, giving out our lesson plans, asking engaging questions, etc.

At last, after a group discussion, we decided to put in an introductory video (about 25s), video of trial lesson (about 10s), etc. Hopefully our presentation will turn out to be successful.

I feel that our oral presentation will be successful in term of the time and efforts we have put in. This time, our time are well organized as all of us manage to gather for meeting on time and pay full attention to the things that we are doing. I believe that we do create the good powerpoint slides for everyone has pay their utmost effort on it. Now, we are more understanding to each other and I feel that the bondage among us has somehow tightened. This allows things to be carried out more easily and efficiently.

Even though RE will end sooner or later, the journey of learning never ends. In the future, when we step into the world of reality, there are still a lot of similar things to learn. No matter what, we will strive to overcome it, complete it, befriend with it.

The last of the last of the last of the last of the last of the last of the last of the last of the last of the last of the last of the last....

RE RE RE RE RE….coming to an end….

One more week to our oral presentation and the whole project would be finally over…yahoooo!!!

Coming back to the oral presentation, this time we had sufficient time for preparation. Besides we were selected for the second week to present instead of the first.

Thus, we went on to create another power slide for this presentation. We also met up to practice on how to present, taking care of various qualities of a good presentation, such as good posture, loud voice projection, self confidence and last of all, and a smiling expression!

I feel that this time, we would do pretty well as we had more than enough time to get ready for it. Besides, I think that our presentation was great in a sense that it contained interesting and organized slides, besides adding on a few videos and catchy graphics. Moreover, I think that we will finally be given the chance to show our audience and boast about what we have done, how hard we have worked, and what we have to be proud of.

This time’s preparation was a lot more organized in a sense that everyone was more or less dedicated to the whole thing, in terms of coming on time for group meetings and giving in their utmost attention and cooperation in producing the best slides for the presentation. I feel that as a team, we have done well this time round and our bondage between each other has become stronger and firmer regardless of what has happen in the past, where serious conflicts arose and our relationship was threatened and fragile.

Even though with all our tests and busy schedule of CCA, we still manage to invest time in this project, putting high priority in this project.

Lastly, what I want to say is that, this doesn’t end here. It continues on and on, projects in projects out, and I seriously think that it would not be easier but more and more complicate and challenging in the future.

We had gain lots more than losing (sleep) and by doing that our character is strengthen and our personality starts to reveal itself. What is life if we gain but do not lose in the process? NOTHING.

“It’s not whether how hard we work and how tough it is, but it is what we get at the end.”……I’m starting to like this quote….

SO…

What we have gone thru, doesn’t matter, what truly matters is what we have achieve in the process and we have gain or benefitted from it….

Don’t worry if you fall…

You’ll get up…

Stay strong…

Be courageous…

You won’t be disappointed by the end results…..

Reports, Articles and Oral presentations...

It has been the busiest week ever. It has been 3 nights in a row now that I have only retired after 3am. Nevertheless, time has flown as fast as lightning and I can almost see the sweet moment when this project finally comes to an end. It has been a tough journey all the way now and this would probably be the last time I will be blogging on this website.

Now let’s get back to our work…

Two more days and we are to hand in our final report of RE. In this week, much time has been devoted to RE and even the final reported has been edited and vetted thrice just to produce a perfect, flawless report. However, I am glad to say that we are still left with a little touch up before we can proudly announced, “We have done it!!!!!”

Another major event coming up our path would be the oral presentation for the RESL projects. After that we would be as free as a free bird flying freely in the air. We are currently preparing on this and hope that everything will go smoothly and that we would be able to earn high scores in this field.

My overall reflections…..

It has not being just a simple RESL, not just a service to the society, but a life changing experience. I have learned much. The work, the pain, the joy at the end of all this, all add up to an “unpredictable” journey.

I have indeed gained much knowledge on this topic. Even now, when I go to the canteen, I would automatically approach the vegetarian stall and buy food from there. Ask anyone, they would be my witnesses. I am now more conscious, more aware…

This project has also shape my character. The pressure that I faced has helped me become a stronger person, daring to look hard work in the face, building endurance. Besides, I learned how to work with others, to try to cooperate with them. No two minds think alike, therefore I must learn to compromise, be willing to accept others good points and weaknesses, and at the same time learn and gain from it.

CONFLICT also surfaced itself so significantly for the first time in my life. I did not even expect that from me. Never. For the first time, this happen. I have found my weaknesses…being hot tempered. Here I stand (sit) today in the computer lab, on the 13th of August, 8 pm sharp, pleading guilty on behalf of all my misdoings, apologizes to the veggieloverzzz team members.

Anyway, a great lesson, a great experience, a longer journey ahead. Maybe sometimes two things just don’t fit with each other. Like water and fire, totally two ENTIRELY different things. You think that you are right, but I think you are freakin wrong. No matter no matter. One more week one more week… and that will mark the end and put a stop to this...

Our teacher mentor has also pushed us hard in setting a high level of goals and requiring our fullest commitment. We indeed felt the stress at first, but as time goes, I learned how to handle it, and smile, yes SMILE while doing work, cause I know I am going to get out of this thing good big time cosi I kno that I hav da put many the effort into tis thing. It has indeed build me up mentally, but has also drag me down the health slope, cause I have not enough sleep ma….lol…

Last of all, thank you everyone for making this happen and helped out in one way or another. I thank you all sincerely from my heart’s bottom…I mean… bottom of my heart…

Enough said…need to save electricity…save the world…haha…

Reflection...

Finally, all our efforts are finally paid off! After months of brain-storming, proposing, editing, submitting, frustrating and completing, this project will finally be over in 3 weeks time.
However, before everything is over, we still have to complete a lot of work like creating an article and poster. Last week, even until now, we are still struggling with our proposal. The progress is quite slow as the CCTs are around the corner. However, we still find some time amidst the hours of "mugging" to complete our draft proposal as much as possible.
Even though I was away for tournament, I did take over some jobs to do. As they had done the lesson trial when I was away, I do not know more detail about how the lesson was conducted. Therefore, whatever parts that are regarding the lesson were done by others.
Let's strive until the end!!

Lastest Reflection...

What a week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 more weeks left until every is over. So near, yet so far. We have completed a lot of heavy duties, but it is still far from the end. We are still left with our almost completed report, oral presentation, booth displays and articles to write.

It seems very loaded with so much weight on our backs already, with tests and CCTs clinging on to our backs, it seems hard. BUT, as always, we will continue to try ourvery best to strive on to complete this project bringing good fruits at the end.

Back to the issue on teamwork, it's an important element....no, i mean it's a very very very very very very very very very very very very very IMPORTANT element to come out with a successful project.

We are a team, we work as a team. We need to be a team, we will be a team, we must be a team, we will always be a team, as long as this project is still in its process.

What can I say, it is all nearing its end, and I really must say that I am glad, to see that all the hard work and moaning days will soon finally be over, and the time will come when we celebrate our successes, and to learn from our failures, of course.

Come on, lets work hard and strive on...its the last few steps to the END!

"Its does not matter how hard we work, but it is what we get from it at the end which truly matters..."

COME ON!!

Team Work

To work together as a group is one daunting task. There are several factors that make this task extremely difficult. One is the clashes of ideas between teammates, another is the emotional feelings one puts on another, and the last one is to be able to communicate and coordinate well among each other. All these factors are inevitable while doing work as a team, especially when one is unwilling to compromise or to accept others. It may seemed that team work is something that is hard to achieve, however if you think about the outcome that a team can make compared to an individual, the result is spectacular. What makes a team thrive with success? The key is to be able to cast aside personal emotions while working, to be able to accept other people’s opinions and of course, to be willing to COMPROMISE.

As I reflect on the teamwork that my group mates and I have poured into the project so far, I feel that there’s a huge gap between us. Throughout the whole process of conducting the project, we constantly face problems among ourselves, problems that hindered the smooth flow of the process. When I think of what my team mates and I lack of, all I can think of is two factors. One is the poor communication among us, and the other one which I will strongly emphasis on is the lack of compromising among team members.

Compromising is one hard thing especially when a person feels superior over another. The ability to let down our prides and self-righteousness to a particular situation requires a lot of compromising. When there is compromising being done among the team, everything will go on smoothly. Likewise, if the element of compromise does not exist, then everything will surely go haywire. This can be seen throughout the whole process of the project where obstacles occur when compromising is absent.

The success of a team depends solely on the ability of the team to work together well. Therefore I would like to take this opportunity to urge all my team mates to embrace the act of compromising as it will do no harm but benefit you and everyone through the process. =)

The Last 100 metres…

So near, yet so far. There is still a lot to do. I think that our group has still many things to complete, in this very short period of time. It has been half a year of RE, and it has been VERY challenging and we have gone through many problem and obstacles.

This is the last phase of the project. We still have many things to complete. The power point slides, videos, surveys, lesson plans……just too many. And it’s hard for us to compile them together perfectly in this short phase of time, where so many things has happen, may it be good or bad.

All I can say is, it is already nearing the end. Let us all just “chiong” hard for this few weeks and try our best to produced good results for our RE module, that’s the best we can do, and I think that we are able to achieve this goal if we really work hard.

What I have written is mostly is on reflections and what I feel towards the last phase of this project.

About our tasks, we still have a lot to do, as I mentioned earlier. And it’s all too complicated to jot it down here. But whatever it is, we’ll try our best to complete it successfully in due time.

Come on, another few more weeks; let’s just try to push ourselves to the limit for this period of time….
Team Work: what is REAL teamwork?

First of all, to be honest, from the start our teamwork was pretty low, and we weren't quite organized then. But as time went by, it got worst and worst and worst and worst and worst.........until like 1 month ago. Ironically, after that one blow (ya..i mean a real blow) it seems that we are now more organized in our planning and decision making. But maybe this is the way it’s supposed to be. It’s like when it comes to serious stuff, there is no friendship or will there be any room for compensation. Just like business, when it comes to business, everything is put to secondary.

Teamwork is an important element in every group work, in this case, RE. I believe that a team will break apart if they are no cooperativeness within the team. And that is the main thing that is lacking in our team before this, may it be a valuable lesson to all.

Anyway, what is left to do, we’ll have to finish it, doesn’t matter whether we like it or not. We decided to be a team, a team we will be. But…..after all this, when everything is over, when all is done, I don’t know where I’ll be heading, but DEFINITELY not into this anymore. I’ve had enough.

Conflicts happen. Once it happens, there’ll always be a mark there no matter how much you try to make up for it. You can’t make up for it. And I seriously hate most when those who know they are wrong……but do not admit it.

However, I still believe that there must be team work in order to achieve our goal, that is successfully complete our RE module with good results. So now, what is left to do, is to work together and finish up on this project....the sooner the better....so that all of us might be untied from this rope that is holding us all together.

Some Reflection...or maybe word of advice....

Black Pearl moving like a ghost,
Speed and action no one boast,
Five men rowing on a boat,
But still moving like grass-eating goat,
Why?
We are not a ghost.
We have only one paddle
While others looking for motor-engine...
to catch up with the speed of pearl's SINNED ghost.
People asking where you go,
We know we don't know,
“We reached our goal!”
Wait a minute.
Is there a goalpost?
There is one far away.
As world is round in its own way,
so we need to make our way on,
to reach the post by running on.
Facing other players is a tough job,
passing the balls is the method to make them sob.
Beckham, Ronaldo, Maradona made their way through,
but Scholes, Rivaldo and Jorge Valdano are real and true,
blocking defenders of the opposing crew...
One says NO, and one says YES,
what is the result you can guess,
ignoring each other when confront,
but this will end if each bow front.
Sports and music are fun,
but the work is not done.
Cockeral cock-a-doodle-doo,
hens are letting out poo.
But that's what makes eggs crack,
out came the cockeral from its pack
heads up and facing hens with its back.
It is a choice
But choice is the destiny given
one can say that it is careless,
but if without us, who is reckless?
Once we chose to be one,
we are one.
Conflicts and disagreements might have strike,
but that means we will be like CO2,
separated with the liquid of Sprite.
What are we going to do next,
to row the boat or maybe a motor boat,
which its name is FRIENDSHIP
F-U-C-K words spitting out from mouth,
but when you look into it deeply,
F = Friendship
U=You
C=Can
K=Keep
Please, if some of you are not tired, I am.
Teamwork is the only hope, but only if.....
if you communicate.
let us, let us all break down this gate,
that is the blockage of link between us,
and continue this with happiness and proudness,
that we start as a team,
and end as a team.
Response of the guy who has been a middle person for a period of time.

A Journey of Why

I have compressed all my feelings into this little poem. This is my reflection of the whole journey.

A Journey of Why

"Black Pearl moving like a ghost,
Speed and action no one boast,
Five men rowing on a boat,
But still moving very slow,

Why?

We are not a ghost.
We have only one paddle;

People asking where you go,
We know we don't know,

“We reached our goal!”

Wait a minute.

Is there a goalpost?

Lots of Saliva twirling around,
But I am still on the same ground,

Why?

Sea around!

Far-fetched thinking,
But lazy doing,
So there is nothing,

But I am waiting;

Unity can us bring power,

But can also bring down the towers,

Why?

Because it should not exist in just a tower!

Let there be unity!

Unity when

He is in Greenland,

I am in England,

She is in Island.
Don’t waste it!

Too late,
They have;

Sports are fun,

Work is done?
Freedom is yours,

Mistakes are made,

Acknowledged.
Blame who?
Thou;

Is it a destiny?

No.

Just a choice.

One thing to learn,

Choose carefully!"

what we have done during this week...

We have submitted our first draft proposal last friday as planned. However, we were later told that out draft proposal was not completed yet. We didn't include the respective role and the research into the draft proposal. For me, I am asked to split the worksheet into two worksheets, dividing the topic of environmental issues and health issues. We are required to hand in these things by this friday.

Today, we met Mr. Yeow outside the school library. We had discussed about the letter to principal, which, according to Mr. Yeow, is not convincing enough. So we have to draft another letter. Besides, we also discussed about how are we going to carry out the lesson plan.

Mr. Yeow told us that a few students from Hwa Chong Institution are interested in this project. They want to carry out a same event as what we plan to do. We were also told that Dr ColinCampbell will have a talk at Singapore Management University on Sunday, 19 July. He is a world renown expert on nutrition and cancer research. We were asked to attend the talk. However, I will be leaving from Singapore on that day so I won't be able to attend it.

What I have done during holidays.

Before the holidays, we were allocated tasks to do during the holidays. For me, I was asked to write "what is this journey about" and the personal reflection for the draft proposal which we are required to hand in after school reopens, and create a worksheet and debate questions for oue lessons.

For the two components needed for the draft proposal, we were required to write at least a page each. I took the past years RES-L reports as reference and had a rough idea of what i was going to write. I completed these in Malaysia.

For the worksheet, I took the powerpoint created by Kah Wah as reference. The worksheet is something like filling in the blanks. The answers are given in a box in random. And all the related facts can be found in the powerpoint. The worksheet consists of a passage of a page long and about 20 blanks.

We are undergoing isolation for the first week of school so can't hand in our draft proposal on Wednesday as planned. It's still a problem whether we can hand it in on Friday.

What I did during the holidays....

Well....to be honest....I did not spend much time on this project throughout the holidays this time round. But do not be mistaken, I successfully completed my work, at least on my part.

Well....lets talk about what I did....

First we were all allocated with topic to writes on regarding our project as we had to summit our first draft of report when school reopens....well...I'm glad to say that I managed to finish my part just days before the holiday started when i was still stuck at school....

Secondly....we had to do some stuff too for the lessons and plans for the sec 1 students...on my part....i was asked to construct an introduction sheet and a feedback form....ya..and these two things I did it all when I was back in Msia...

So...ya...thats about it...

Holidays...

I have been working on a few parts of the RE report these few weeks. I think that it is quite hard to coordinate our ideas since everyone is working on different parts of the report and we cannot meet during the holidays. Other than that, I don't think I have any thing to reflect during the holidays. :) We still have 1 more month to go. Yeh.

Interview With George Jacob

At first, we were very nervous about the interview. However, it turned out quite well. I think George Jacob is a very nice person and could talk to us at length about vegetarianism. I am personally quite impressed by him, given that he is relatively old but still clinch firmly to the goal of making the world a better place to live by encouraging people to cut down on the meat consumption. I feel very grateful that he accepted our interview and gave us a lot of insightful ideas that will no doubt help us immensely in our project. Now, my work is just to create a powerpoint for the lessons. Hope that my group can succeed? :)

Reflection

We are now planning to infuse a new topic into CLE, instead of into English. I feel that the pace of the project is starting to increase since the timeline for the project is shortened. However, I think we still can manage to pass up our work on time. Holiday is not the time to relax but to work. What kind of holiday is this? I am quite worried about the interview with George Jacob. I don't know how it will turned up. I hope it will be smooth. I am now starting to lose the interest in the project. "Lost" might be a better substitution. :( Do I learn anything? Individual work is be better than teamwork! That's all for today.

Personal Reflection...

At first we planned to infuse the topic of “eating-less-meat” into English subject, therefore we wanted to interview one of the English teachers in RI. We set Mr. Kelvin Yap as our target and we sent an email to him regarding our RE project and the time and venue for discussion. He was willing to see us on Tuesday during the assembly period.

Mr. Kelvin Yap also thought that our project is a very good idea; he is very supportive towards our project. However, he also thought that infusing the topic into English is quite difficult so he suggested us to infuse it into other subjects, like CLE and PE, instead. We thought that topic is not relevant to CLE but Mr. Kelvin Yap said that CLE at lower Sec is mainly teaching the students about how to take care of themselves so the topic is in fact relevant. Now, we changed our plan to infuse the topic into CLE instead.

We have allocated tasks for each member and planned to finish the tasks during June holidays. Hope that we can meet our targets and present a good product.

Reflection...as the hols come nearer..

We met up with Mr Kelvin Yap....we dicussed about the possibility of infusing of our project idea into the english curiculum of RI. However, after we have discussed it with him, he told us that it would be very hard to infuse it into the english programme of RI as it it very hard to change the raffles lessons.

After that he told us that we could try some other project such as the character and leadership (CLE) or Physical education. So we thought about it and decided to try out our programme on CLE. We are now drafting our proposal all over again to fit it into the programme.

During this holidays, we plan to do many things so that we can quickly finish up on this project. We have already alocate diffrent task for each of the team members. We hope to finish up on all this by the end of this Jun holidays and hope to be ready to present our product by then.

Well hope that we would be able to meet our targets and deadlines by the end of this holiday...

Personal Reflection....May 3rd week...

Another hard week of RE...

Our teacher mentor asked us to draft our fianl proposal that will be inclined towards infusing a change in the curriculum in the sec 1 programme.

Well, this afternoon, we went to the library and finished up on our final praposal...what the...dunno how many proposals we have bee doing already...and i really do hope that this will be the very last one that I'll be doing.

Well, we have done touching up with all the proposal stuff. So now, I am quite confident with our proposal now and I am sure that we will be able to carry out this project quite successfully.

Continue to keep my fingers cross so that nothing will screw up..

Before this we have just been brainstorming all the way with nothing actually done. But now, after weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks of preperation, Im sure that we can really do some real stuff now as all our plans have been made clear to us...

Hope that all the effort that we put in will bring us satisfactory results...

Progress so far

Hi everyone,

RESL is a challenging subject, mainly because even if you work very hard alone, you might not have a successful project because the key elements that make a project successful is teamwork. Partnership is another area.. we need not only to work well with each other, we need to work well with our community partner.

I think as a group, you guys have progress much... though sometimes we are not very clear about the direction ahead, we continue to strive to seek clarity, that effort is important. RESL is challenging because we deal with real people, real issues and real projects, that is why is it not so neat... but there lies the opportunity to learn in a real world context.

I will like to encourage you with the 3 Ps...

Purpose - keep going back to your purpose in joining RESL, in choosing this particular topic and ask yourselves if you are still on track always

People - keep learning how to work with people, learn how to manage the stakeholders and of cos ourselves

Project - keep learning how to manage a project, with all the documentations and planning etc...

yours-in-learning

Personal Reflection...

Last Wednesday, we spent about half an hour to present our project to the other group so we can gain some comments from them. During the presentation, we should introduce our partner to the audience and tell them how we are going to carry out our project, which was what the other group did. However in our presentation, we told the audience about our research rather than how to carry out the project. So this is what we have to learn.

Then we went back to B22 to discuss our project, vege day, with Mr. Yeow. We asked him a lot of questions and also hoped to hear some suggestions from him. In the end, Mr. Yeow said that this event may lack of publicity so we had to think of other event.

Gathered as a group, we discussed about what can be carried out other than vege day and at last we came out with the idea of gaining the principal’s support and infusing the idea of vegetarianism into our curriculum. We sent the proposal to Mr. Yeow and our teacher mentor, Mr. Goh. However, Mr. Yeow told us that the approaching of principal thingy was already proposed for the Food4Life project. And Mr. Goh thinks that the project is good but we have to improve more on it. On the other hand, Mr. Sarkkunan said that this idea is impractical and whatever facts that we gathered were not proven by scientific means hence this is an idea he will never encourage his group to do.

I feel frustrated as every idea we have thought of was rejected and everything is back to zero. We have to start all over again. Brain storm……………………………………..

Personal reflections...

Last week, we had discussed about where should we be heading for our projects. All of voiced out on our own opinions. All of us have different opinions on how we're intending to carry out the project. Mr.Yeow was speechless cuz we kept bombarding him with our opinions. In the ned all the group leaders were called out to discuss. The result was, we gotta do our own project and we no longer will be synergizing together. As a result, we're back to the brain-storming stage, back to the proposal once again.

After that, my team had a discussion to think of what we're going to do for our own project. We discussed for a very long time and all of us finally decided to approach to the principal and to infuse vegetarianism into the curriculam, which was our previous ideas. Once again we sent the proposal to mr.Yeow, hoping that he'll approve our project. After a few days, he replied us, saying that the approaching the prinicipal thingy was already proposed for the Food4Life project. I felt demoralized at that moment. Somehow whatever project ideas that we proposed in the end we wont get to carry it out. But it's okay, it's just part of the learning process. Then Mr.Goh said that the 'infusion into curriculam' one was pretty good, just that we need to improve more on it. But when Mr.Sarkkunan saw this idea, he felt that this idea seems impractical. He said that whatever facts we had gathered was not backed by scientific proofs, hence infusion into the curriculam is a bad idea that he will never encourage his group to do. Once again a big question mark on my head and once again we gotta think of another idea...................

Kern Hong: Personal Reflections....

Another week has passed, we presented our ideas about our vege day to our teacher mentor, Mr Goh and Mr. Yeow. We discussed about that what events we were going to have for our vege day and how would we conduct it. But after the long discussion, Mr Yeow said that the ideas were good, but would probably lack publicity. So we were asked to think of another event to do.

Well, I must say that....yes i feel a little disappointed. We had really spend a lot of our time discussing this event as a group. We are facing difficulties on even planning on what event to hold.

Now, after rounds of brainstorming and discussions we final decided to approach the principal to gain her support by infusing activities concerning vegetarianism into the school's events. Well, hopw that all works well this time round.

Personal Reflection...

All veggie groups had joined together and formed a group called Food4Life. We planned to carry out a big bang event which belongs to Food4Life. After discussing and planning, we thought that with this big bang event we can score a good grade for our RE project. However, Mr. Sarkkunan told us that to obtain a good grade for RE, we have to instead carry out our own project and the final product must be something that is done by our own group, but not Food4Life. Therefore, we have to plan and discuss all over again.

We had several group meetings during this whole week and our decision is finally being finalized, that is to carry out a VegeDay. Each of us thought of at least one activity that can be carried out on that day. And we are given our role and things that we are in-charged of. I have come out with an idea which is to carry out a demo on how to make vegetarian dishes. We will be discussing in details with our teacher mentor and external mentor on this Wednesday.

Personal reflection

After months of planning and discussions, we thought that synergizing the Food4Life group would be enough to give us good grades fro our project, until Mr. Sarkkunan told us that the so called "RE requirements" require us to conduct the project on our own and the final product must be something done by our own team, not the Food4Life team. This was very demoralizing to me at first. I feel that all these months of plannings, sending proposals, discussing about the big bang, were pointless and they were down to the drain in the end. But what can i do about it? Absolutely nothing. The school demanded it. Hence we have no choice but to follow it...

Right after we recieved the bad new from Mr. Sarkkunan, instead of feeling angry and dissatisfied, we moved on to plan for our own project. After several group discussions, we came to a finalized decission, which is to carry out a Vege Day, an event that we will be helding in school. The details of this event is highly classified, only members of the group know about it and we're planning to duscuss about it with our teacher mentor and our external mentor the next time we see them...

Personal reflection

Kern Hong: Personal Reflections......

Well, another week has passed....

During our weekly discussion, we dicuss about our role and responsibilities, as an individual and as a group. We, the 4 vege proups are now more clear about our roles to play as a group.

Also we tasted the VEGETARIAN CHICKEN RICE that were sampled to us. The ingredients: brown rice, vege slices, mocked meat with ginger stuffings. I think it was delicious! Honestly....
The cost price was slightly more than 1 dollar. Well, we are planning to introduce this vege chicken rice to the school canteen and are now still on the planning stage to this event.

Monday: another day of interview with the reporters. Kah Wah and I, with another 4 boys, met up with the reporters from New Strait Times this time round and had an interview with them. It took longer this time(2and the half hours) compared to the otime we had with the reporters from lianhewanbao. The reporter intervewed us, asking us about our project, in detail. Then, we took photograph with the burger again, like models, except it was posting with burgers!

Two days before the interview, Mr Yeow and and few of the key leaders in each group met up at the NATIONAL LIBRARY at Bugis to discuss about the interview that will be held on Monday. We discussed how to answer the questions that will be asked by the reporter from New Strait Times. It was about a 2 hour session.

Our group, the vege group have also met up 3 times this week to discuss on our future plans on the VEGE DAY. We have made a big progress this week. We are planning to have a Vege Day as an individual group somewhere In July.

I really feel that I can now really concentrate on this project as I have just finish my tournament and I have more time for other stuff. I think that with our rate of progrees now(after all the tournaments), I think that we as group, will succeed in this project!

Every member in the group is more compromising and are getting along well with each other. I am looking forward to the future events that we will do regarding this project, espeacially the Vege Day! Let's hope for the better.....

Personal Reflection...

I have researched on the environmental issues that are caused by meat consumption. However, this is not an easy task; you can’t find anything you want on internet. Therefore, I only managed to find two environmental issues: global warming and forest depletion. Besides, I also have not enough time to do research because I have busy schedule with badminton and also need the time for study.

I feel that my group has done their best in doing the project, despite there is room for improvement. The roles and responsibilities are distributed to everyone so that everyone contributes to the project.

I also feel that there are areas that we need to improve. After the burger launch, we are now trying to promote vegetarian chicken rice. For me, it feels like we are not doing our own project but following Mr. Yeow’s idea instead. Besides, we have planned some activities to carry out but we have not done our preparation. I hope that we can prepare well and complete our tasks before deadline.

Personal Reflection

For me, actually I have not been doing much. I have done not much research, mainly because it is really time-consuming. I only do my research every Thursday after school. This is because I still need to manage my time for my schoolwork. I am planning to increase the period of my research to one more day, so that I can obtain more information. Talking about time-consuming, it is really true. For example, when I was researching on the Atkin's Diet craze in the 1980s last Thursday, I took about two hours but in the end only manage to make a few slide. This is solely due to fact that some scientists believe that Atkin's Diet is healthy but some scientists believe that it is not. Therefore, I need to read quite a few articles before judging and my reading speed is not that fast. This is the problem that I have reiterated for quite a few times and I still feel that it is the main problem for me. In addition, now I also face one more problem, that is when I am judging the reliability of a particular source, I sometimes feel inclined to support the meat-eater side. Though, I cannot do that because if I do so, my main objective which is to spread awareness will not work. People will feel that I am contradictiong myself if I were to advocate the meat-eater side. These two big problems were still left for me to solve. Pity.
I feel that my group conducted quite well these few weeks. Firstly, I want to apologize for my teammates as I feel that I was very inconsiderate for them because I demanded too much from them, even though they are very busy for their CCAs and schoolwork. Though, sometimes I still feel that we should push out of our comfort zone. I think that the feeling of success that we might experience in the end will worth the hardwork and efforts that we put in. Pump up, guys. Think of the plans for Vegetarian Day. If each person were to contribute at least one idea, it will be 5 ideas and it will be surely be enough a single day. I have the idea of making a Veggie T-shirt. Is this destined to be a flattery skill again by the willingful but stupid human beings advertising for us? Do you hear that, it is a walking advertisement! Ingenious!
So far, I have learnt more about vegetarianism and the effects of meat on the environment which is the only thing not known by me about meat. Frankly, I think that I still haven't learn anything about service learning. We still haven't do anything about that. New area for improvement? Yes! Through this project, I have learnt that teamwork is very important and researching is not as easy as I previously thought. That's all this time.

Term 2 week 4

On the 15th of April, we had a meeting with Mr.Goh first and after that with Mr.Yeow. Mr. Goh briefed us about what we should be doing for the following weeks. He demanded that we make perfect our proposal and also prepare for the presentation next week. Then he gave all the groups a peice of large paper to write about what are our roles and so on. After that, he handed over the time to Mr. Yeow. Mr. Yeow was talking about the burger launch thing and he too demanded us to improve our proposal.

So far, I had mix feelings about the project that we have been carrying out. I felt that i have tried and gave my very best into the project. I have been completing whatever tasks that were allocated to me despite my busy schedule on squash. Yes it's my season right now and yes i'm very very busy with it. Sometimes i felt very discouraged with all the project tasks that were thrown to me. First of all, i have insufficient time. All of my precious time were either stolen away from tests, homeworks, assignments, squash etc, and there's not much time left for RE. Secondly, without a laptop, doing ALL  of those tasks is impossible. Everytime before the deadline, i have to run up and down looking for my seniors to borrow a laptop. Lastly, calling everyone for discussions or doing the project is one difficult thing to do. Everyone's schedule is so packed and there's hardly any free time that can be spared for the project.

Hence, i hope that all the parties involved will understand our situation. Its not easy to be a sportsman when all the school work and projects are piling up on me. Hope you'll will understand...

Kern Hong: My Personal Reflections.....

Well, I feel that we have accomplished much. Yes! We have accomplished MUCH! No matter what anyone says. We, as a team, have done well and have been trying our very best to make perfect this project.

As for my own task and responsibilities, I feel that I have tried my very best and have given out my best in my roles and things that are assigned to me. Despite my busy schedule with badminton…and more badminton, I am satisfied with what I have accomplished so far. The planning of events…distributing flyers…pasting posters on the stall…the burger launch…interviewing with the press…

As a team, we have organized ourselves well and are still improving. Compared to the start of term, when we were still not settled down and not familiar with the project, we have done much better in our work distribution and time management.

All that we have done, especially the burger launch, have spread much awareness to the students of our school. Now, I believe that the school is more aware of the food they eat.

Throughout this project, I think that I have learnt much. This includes mainly of team work and taking our roles and responsibilities seriously. I learned that when even ONLY one of our members does not contribute, the whole thing stops progressing.

Service learning is a good thing for students to do. Students get to expose themselves to the community and learn how to interact with them, solving problems and facing challenges along the way.

However, these projects ought to be FUN!... Not something that you dread doing, right? In my opinion, these projects should be more flexible and should concentrate LESS on final reports and documented stuff. They should NOT be so straight and have too many guidelines. As long as the students mind and heart are onto it, they can be considered as doing WELL.

OVERALL, I think that I HAVE DONE WELL…. But there will always be room for improvement. So I guess that I just have to continue to work hard and try to contribute as much as I can to this project.

Lastly, I just want to say in a polite manner, that we are students. Much is expected from us in many areas, and sometimes we just can’t be good in everything. We have many responsibilities and many roles to play and we need to balance our time and concentrate in those that we are weak at.

As a sportsman, I have been busy in my trainings and tournaments. It’s the season and I need to prepare well for it. At the mean time, I….don’ have enough time or energy to put our fullest commitment into this project. It’s HARD! But as the season starts to end, I PROMISE that I will give my very best and contribute more to this project.

Hope that everyone who is involve in this project in one way or another, understands the situation that I am going through, especially my teammates and my teacher mentor. Hope you all understand….

That’s all from me….............................

Burger Launch.

The burger launch should be considered as a success as I think we sold quite a number of burger, even though not up to the number that we expected. I think the main objective for the burger launch is to create more awareness though I don't see any difference before and after the launch. Hehe. I think we should try to scrutinize the flaws of the launch and try to improve them, so that we do even better in our big bang event-VegeDay. Posters will not work, for sure, I don't see any people reading or even glimpsing our posters. That's all.

My Role In The Team.

My role in the team is the team leader. My job is to lead the team. I always act as an advisor for the group. I always try to give ideas for improvement on the ideas that we have brainstormed. I am also responsible to do the health aspect of vegetarianism. I have been researching for a while on my research topic. Sometimes I feel very quite hard to judge what I have been researching as I feel that both sides, pro-vegetarianism and pro-meat-eater have their own evidences to support their stances. I am also in charge on interviewing. I have not been contacting anyone yet but soon, most probably during the holidays as I will be freer. I feel that our group will success in the end if we stay bonded to each other and be cooperative.

Term 2 week 3

On wednesday's RE period, we were discussing only about the burger launch which is on the 13th of April. We had already put up posters at the canteen and everything was ready except for the announcement to be made during assembly. The announcement was scheduled to be made on Thursday but unfortunately it was raining, so the assembly was cancelled and all anouncement was made through the class PA system. The announcement was brief and it was rather soft. I doubt that students are able to hear it at first. But after it was made, my classmates were talking about it so i think it was succesful.

On Monday, we were anxiously waiting for the announcement to be made but somehow the prefect in charge didn't make the announcement. 15 minutes before recess, i was asked by Mr.Yeow to proceed to the canteen for the press to interview me. The interview took about 10 minutes and i was rather relax throughout the process. After the interview, the reporters took a couple of pictures which are kinda funny. We were asked to pose to the camera with the burgers in our hands. Haha. It seemed that the overall respond was quite good and the queue was long and continuous. Mr.Yeow was satisfied with it and he decided to extend the launch another day. The next day, another announcement was made regarding to the extend of the burger launch. The respond was the same as yesterday's as many students were queuing up for the burger. I can call this burger launch as a succesful one :)

The Burger Launch? Well....

The burger launch in the RI canteen was held yesterday, on the 13 of march. Well, below is the list of things that has happen throughout this whole process.

We planed announce about the event during the assembly last Friday, which was on the 10th of April. Unfortunately, luck was not on our side. It drizzled in the morning so the assembly was cancelled and we had to announce our event through the intercom in class, which was not all that effective.

However, on Monday, we managed to announce about the event during the assembly. And by sticking posters about the event in each class, I guess that everyone was quite well informed about the event.

During recess, the press from lianhezaopao and lianhewanpao came to interview us on the event. Our team, the veggie lovers team, gave comments on this burger launch thingy and answer the questions that were thrown at us by the reporters. We also took many pictures by posing with the burger.

I think that this burger launch was quite a success. I believe that because of the reporter’s presence and the fact that they came to interview us and inspect the event, many students were attracted to it. Everyone was curious and wanted to see what was happening and eventually bought a burger, at least most of them. Most of them commented that the burger was quite delicious despite being vegetarian. I think that word by mouth played quite an important part too in this event. I told many friends about this event and encouraged them to come and support. I could say that 80% of them turned up! It was great!

However, they were some setbacks. Originally, we planned to let the students answer 2 quizzes about vegetarianism before allowing them to buy the burger at 50 cents. I think that the event was too properly organized, so the students did not quite understand how the whole thing worked. In the end, the students just had to pay 50 cents and get one burger. But overall, I think that it was still a great success despite this little problem. Everything went on very smoothly…

The next day, Tuesday, we sold the burger for the same price once again, which was not our original idea. This was because there was an overwhelming demand for the burger (because of its price:))….haha. Surprisingly, we still sold many burgers, almost as many as the 1st day.

In conclusion, I think that this was a very very very very successful event all together. Although we had to go through many hard times and had a difficult time putting up the posters and preparing the event, the results paid off, it was worth it. I really hope that we can have more of this type of events in the future. Besides the awareness, there is also a slight sense of achievement, greatness and publicity within us during this event. I have become more enthusiasts in this project after this event.

Let’s hope that they will be more successes in the future for this group. It has been a good start. Let’s hope that it will be better.

Burger Day Launch 1st Day

The vegetarian burger event was launch yesterday at the RI school canteen. We had a supply of 300 burgers by VSS ( Vegetarian Society Singapore ). On that day morning, no announcement was made during the assembly due to some technical problem, which is mentioned by the carrot group, that Mr. Teo rejected it. But during the first recess, the selling of the burger was actually quite a success despite lacking of announcement, the stall sold about 100+ burgers. During the second recess, we also sold 100+ burgers. And we sold some during lunch time. This project is quite a success because of all the help of the teams, teacher mentor's guidance and VSS for their support. The students and school is also supportive to our project. Besides that, there were also press from 联合早报 and 联合晚报. Kah Wah was the representative from our group. He went there around 10.45 to meet up with the press. During the second recess, the press eventually met up with all the group members. We took photos and being asked some question about the burger.

Although the burger launch event is quite a successful one, but one of our plans was not executed because the announcement was actually not made during that day. The announcement was actually made on last thursday, 9th of April, but it was not that clear because we actually do not have a assembly because it was drizzling that morning. So, we only got to listen to the announcement in class but it was not that effective due to the noisiness of the class. So, we had decided that we use the quiz for other purposes in the future like putting them in the vegetarian day thingy.

Here are some feedbacks from the fellow Raffles Institution students :

Yuan Jing : I think that the burger is very nice, and it is cheap too. The mushroom in the burger doesn't taste like one, it taste like meat. Actually I think that this burger can replace those meat burgers on sale. I actually bought 4 burgers today, and I hope for more......

Jae Li : I think that this burger is nice. The price is cheap, that's what i think that it is attacting the people to buy it. But it tastes great though.....

Unknown Sec 2 student : I think that the price of the burger is very cheap, but if the price returns to 1.60, I think nobody will buy it because it is not worth it as meat burger is cheaper by 10cents and it is more filling. But, i think the burger is fine.

Although most of the feedbacks is showing a good sign, but actually some of the pupils think that the burger is not worth the price. In our group's opinion, the students were actually attracted by the price, they actually didn't think about anything else besides the price. They don't even care about what is inside the burger. So, we conclude that maybe people nowadays buy and eat things base on their price, but not the healthiness and environmental-friendliness of the food. On the other hand, we think that the burger's taste is great, it will actually continue to be a popular food in the canteen as most people now is buying it frequently, people actually buy 2-4 burgers each. The demand for it was high, so we think it is quite a good sign. But we felt that we need to improve on the publication side because the quiz part actually did not work because of poor publicity.

Burger Launch Day

Burger launch day was held on Monday (13/4) and Tuesday (14/4).

Last Thursday, an announcement was made to tell the school about the burger launch day on next Monday and Tuesday. However, since that day it seemed to rain so we had “morning assembly” in class, the students made a lot of noise during the announcement. I was worried if they had received the message and whether the burger launch day would be a success.

On Monday, the announcement was not made in the morning but during recess a lot of people went to buy the burger. We were called to the canteen during recess for photo taking. After that, we were asked to promote the burgers. I asked my classmates to try the burgers and they were quite supportive. Really thank them for having the heart to help.

The next day, I received some feedbacks which said that the burgers were quite nice; despite some of them do not like the taste of the patty. I think the burger launch days were a success, but whether it can convey the message we wanted to convey, that is another thing.

My Role In The Team

What have i been doing:

Throughout the whole project that we have been carrying so far, we have been assigned to various tasks and assignments. I have been very involved into the team's activity and I have work fairly hard for the team. Throughout the process, I had took various initiatives in leading the team to work. I had took part in all the discussions and i have also gave relevant ideas in carrying out the project. Besides, I have always been emailing our teacher mentor Mr.Goh and also our external mentor Mr. Yeow regarding our project proposals and meeting arrangements.

What are my future role in the project:

Throughout the whole month of April, i will be researching on important issues regarding to the environment. Besides that, i will also be partnering with Kern Hong in giving talks about vegetarianism to create awareness. In addition, before giving the talks, we will do some preparation and rehearse on it. I will also be leading the team to discuss with various key figures for instance our school's principal, canteen commitee, various subjects' HODs. At the end of the project, i will be taking part in the composing of the final report of our project. That will be carried out during August.

Kern Hong: What We Have Done And My Role In The Team

What have We been doing:

Throughout these few weeks of discussion concerning this project, we have made many preparations and have been planning activities that would raise awareness among the students of RI.

First of all, we have planned to meet with the press so as to share with the public the importance of vegetarianism and how heavy the issue of the over-consuming of meat is to our planet. We have already made arrangements to meet up with Ms Florence Sim, who is in charge of our meeting with the press. However, we are have not met up with her yet and are planning to do so soon.

Secondly, we have decided that we will have a veggie burger launch next monday, that is on the 13th of April, which will be the most important event of this project. Students have to answer several questions about vegeterism to enable them to buy a vegetarian burger. The Answers can be found on one of the canteen stores that have been pasted with many poster for students to find their answers to their questions.

We have also printed out many poster and have pasted them in every class from sec 1 to sec 4 to inform the students about the veggie burger day next monday.

My role:

My team and I have been discussing with Mr. Yeow regarding our individual rolls in this vegetarian project. As for me, I have been assigned to various tasks.

My team and I, consisting of Kah Wah, Wei Herr, Yong Xien, Cheng Yuen and I have been planning to meet up with the press. However, as I have mentioned earlier, we have not met up with her yet and are planning to do so soon, probably after the veggie burger launch.

On the 5th of April, My team, together with Mr. Yeow had also spent an hour and a half putting up posters and information about vegetarianism on one of the canteen stores. This is a preparation towards the burger launch day for student to find the answers to their questions to enable them to buy a veggie burger for $0.50.

On the 7th of April, I have also pasted the posters in every class to inform students about the burger launch day on the 13th of April. I have done this together with my teammates by pasting information about the veggie burger on each class's notice boards. I will also be anouncing to the school and remind them about the event on the burger launch day itself, during assembly.

Besides that, Kah Wah and I have also been assigned to give talks to various groups to create awareness. We will of course, be preparing ourselves so as to be able to convince them about the importance of vegetarianism.

In the research department, I have teamed up with Wei Herr and have been assigned to research on "world hunger" and its connection to vegetarianism. This will be long term task and Wei Herr and I are working on it at the moment and will do our job seriously.

In addition, I will also be taking part in the final composing of the project report, where we will have to list done what we have done so far, and what have we accomplised. But that won't be due until August.

Ps: Mr Goh and Mr Yeow, Cheng Yuen and I would like to say sorry for consistently not been able to attend the RE meetings on Wednesdays. We have been very busy with our badminton tournaments as now its the tournament season. However, the season will be over in less than 3 weeks time and we promise that we will try and do our very best to contribute to this project. Thank you.

Cheng Yuen: My role in the RE group...

This time, I will blog about my role in the RE group. There are some tasks that we will carry out throughout the year like research on some topics, persuade canteen vendors, give talks, and design and distribute flyers.

One of my group mates, Kah Wah, and I will be doing research on “Environmental Issues”. So far, I had done the research on two issues: “how does meat consumption contribute to global warming?” and “how does meat consumption contribute to forest depletion?”. From the first issues, according to a 2006 report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), we know that the meat causes more greenhouse gases than the transportation and industry. The greenhouse gases like CO2, methane, and nitrous oxide trap solar energy, thereby warming up the Earth’s surface. From the second solution, we know that land for grazing is needed for animals like cows and lambs. To provide land for the animals in a densely forested region, rainforests are cut.

Besides working on the research, Wei Herr and I will be designing and distributing the flyers to RI students. The flyers will contain information to tell the students about the disadvantages of consuming meat and the advantages of consuming vegetables. The flyers have not been designed yet as we haven’t thought of any ideas to design the flyers. Moreover, as stated in the proposal submitted last week, we will touch on this task earliest in May.

11th March 2009

During the discussion with Mr.Yeow, he came up with this idea of synergizing the strength of all the groups who are doing the project and we were to be specializing on certain sectors. We discussed for awhile with Mr. Yeow and we decided that we will be specializing on the creating awareness scetor. Thus, we will be advocating the importance of vegetariansim to the students of RI. This includes infusing vegetarianism into the curriculam, distributing flyers, and giving talks during assembly. All of thess will need permission from the principal of the school.

Meeting with Mr. Yeow

For the past few weeks we had met up with the representitive of our community partner VSS, Mr. Yeow. He gave us some talks about vegetarianism and we had discussed about some of the proejct proposals and he gave us a lot of ideas in doing the project. He always emphasize on the importance of infusing vegetarianism into the curriculam and all other methods in raising awareness were not as effective as this one. We could never agree more about this and with his advice, we decided to include this element into our project. With the green light from him, we had finalized the proposal of our project which is creating awareness among the students about the importance of vegetarianism. In addition, we will try to infuse vegerarianism into the curriculam as far as possible.
With Mr. Yeow's guidance, I personally felt that the project will be succesful as he is very experienced in this sector.
I personaly felt that the progress of this project was rather at a slow pace. For instance, when we have to come out with a project proposal, we spent a couple of weeks to come out with a finalized project proposal and that was beyond the date line given. Everytime we were required to do the proposal, our team does not respond to it immediately and we dragged it along until before the day we have to pass up the proposal. This happened because all of us were busy revising for our tests and were busy with CCA and some school activities. We could have done better in this if we manage our time properly to avoid doing things in the last minute.
Besides that, the difficulty in accessing to the computer further slows down our progress of the project. As all of us are staying in the boarding, we are not allowed to bring a laptop and we can only use the computer at the com lab situated in the boarding. The com lab operates daily from 7.45pm to 9.30pm which is during the prep time. Everytime we wanted to do a research, send emails, do proposals etc, we can only use the computer around that time. This is rather inconvenient to us as we need to do revisions during prep time and we don't have time for the com lab.
Lastly, the lack of experience in doing projects is the MAIN factor that causes the progress of our project to run slow. In Malaysia, all of us were not exposed to doing projects like RE-SL projects. Hence, we do absolutely NO IDEA about what is the correct way of doing it. For instance the format of a formal invitation through emails, the correct way of doing researchs, the correct way of doing the proposals etc. Everytime we tried and gave our best in doing the project but somehow we did not get it right in the end. This always frustrates us A LOT!!!! But no matter what we will still put in the effort that we had always been putting in and thats the MALAYSIAN spirit =)
